Unit 7 – Project Proposal

Candidate Number 62299
Pathway

Media
Project Title Festival of making
Section 1: Review (Approx 150 words)
Over part 1 and part two of the course I learned various techniques in my chosen pathway that will be used to improve the quality of the project by adding the skills I have learned such as colour grading and creating text in illustrator. Working on a live project has given me an insight in to the demands of the industry and an understanding of how important good planning and preparation   prove invaluable to the final product’s quality. On the other hand from the past units I have learned I need to gather more research when creating a product as will demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic being covered by the project. The reason for me using media as the fmp’s pathway is because throughout the units I have specialised into it developing my show reel of work for use in my future progression to higher education. This is shown as the work created at the start of the year is less technically accomplished than compared to my most recent work.

Section 2: Project Concept (approx 250 words)
I been inspired to develop my project proposal after finding out about a festival taking place my local area. The festival focuses on making all types of creative work form food to artwork pieces.

One of the aspects of the festival is that artists have been commissioned to work alongside 9 local companies.

I intend to make a short documentary that follows the process of an art work being made. This will involve gaining formal permissions to film on the locations, researching both the companies and artists involved as well as working to a schedule and plan. Prior to making the documentary I have initially be researching documentaries such as ,what do artists do all day’ , ‘shock of the new’ these have given me a insight on the way the documentary will look, this is I do want the documentary to be a presenter talking to the camera and explain the art pieces one by one. I will be experimenting with a different use of cutaways as well attempting some observatory styles of documentary.

The documentary’s method of delivery will be mainly be expository focusing on the artists themselves and their work rather than using a presenter led format as that presents problems such as finding the presenter and them learning their script that may hinder or slow the progress of the project. The project will be filmed with the cannon XA10 its lighting done with led lights or light screen as well as sound captured by a boom microphone.    This equipment is viable as it is college equipment.

The documentary will be presented in the media pathways film screening room that will be hosted at the courses end of year art exhibition.

Section 3: Evaluation (approx 100 words)
The project will be evaluated using the form of detailed reviews at each stage of the process looking at the progress made, how effective and what I could do to improve it. The editing process will allow me to make judgements about the final piece, I will have peer critiques and tutorials with staff and use there feedback to improve the work. The final evaluation of the project will take the form of a long form written evaluation detailing the strengths and what I would do differently in the projects as whole.
